The School of Music

Author(s): Meurig Bowen

Music

Welcome to the School of Music, a place bursting with talent, creative energy and special encounters. It is a place of nuts-and-bolts learning - getting the basics for beginners right - as much as a place where musical imagination runs riot and where everyone has triple-fun with the sound of music. Making it...Listening to it...Writing it.
Meet The Boss! He's called Sergio Trunk. Some people call him The Maestro, and he, along with his team of talented musicians, will lead you through 40 lessons that help you to learn about classical music, the theory behind music, and the fun you can have making it.

How do music and movies go together? How do music and architecture go together? How can we combat nerves before performing? How can I develop as a composer? Which musical instruments are played with a bow? What does Sforzando mean? Just how creative and exciting can music get?

The School of Music is a great introduction to music and those wanting to learn all there is to how music works. The book covers the history of music, types of instruments, how music is written and played, and ways music exists in the world.

This bright and playfully illustrated book is set up as if the reader has been accepted in to The School of Music. Six creative musician characters lead the reader through lessons divided into three school terms. Included throughout the book are links to online musical samples specially recorded by musicians from around the world.

It's for anyone interested in making and learning about the basics of music and is full of quirky stories and facts.
