Bambi the Blind Alpaca

Author(s): Jan Lummis

NZ Picture Books

A true story about a missing alpaca and his blind brother, Bambi, who suddenly had to fend for himself without his lifelong companion and paddock-mate, Charisma, to lead him around. Bambi frets with only sheep for company, and refuses to eat. Can a new alpaca best friend be found?

Tiffany's Review:

Is there anything cuter than a fuzzy alpaca? How about a blind fuzzy alpaca with gorgeously long eyelashes?

Bambi the Blind Alpaca is inspired by the true story of Bambi whose paddock-mate Charisma went missing in mid-2018 from their north Auckland farm. Owner Jan Lummis has turned author and given a kid-friendly explanation for Charisma’s disappearance in this sweet story about Bambi’s search for a new companion. Award-winning illustrator Jenny Cooper’s dream-like portraits of pastoral life beautifully capture Bambi’s loneliness in Charisma’s absence. This is a lovely tale about finding friends who accept your differences. There is a fantastic fact section at the end of the book for alpaca-loving kids who want to know more.
